 Host Gator has been in business since 2002 and uses the Planet data center in Dallas Texas. Their servers are dual Xeons with 4GB memory and IDE Raid hard drives. They have a wide selection of dedicated servers in addition to their shared and reseller offerings. They are very highly regarded in the web hosting community.

Hostgator was the faster. They were very nice and patient with a beginner like me (They gave me a coupon ^^). 
Well, after that, I read some reviews about them and I made my decision to sign with them for a shared plan (swamp plan fits my needs). 
 
I am a very happy customer since 4 months. For a beginner lke me, the control panel is very intuitive. 
The support is also great ! Each time I had a question or a problem, they answered me and solved it very quickly ! (raised PHP memory, solved a Path problem and FTP problem). They are nice and patient. Some time 2 of them answer me at the same time 
Hehe, on the ticket history I just found that : One time I write them at 04:57 AM and they answered me at 05:03 AM. 
 
Well, what next? I am seriously considering taking a dedicated server in 2-3 months with them. I am not a professional to manage a server, I have just some basics on Linux network. I am sure Hostgator will help to make my way on managing a dedicated server if I have a problem. 
Well, I think for my first experience with a Webhost company, it’s a success.

I've never had a problem with HostGator - Used them for about 6 months and would use them again in the future should the need arise.

I've been with Hostgator for a bit over a year now and started off the first year on the Hatchling plan. Back then it was something like 3.5GB storage and 50GB bandwidth (don't remember the exact numbers). I didn't really run into any problems and no downtime that I noticed. They've since upped the specs on their plans quite a bit. 
 
I switched over to a month-to-month on the Baby plan since I wanted to host multiple domain names. Since the move, I think my site's actually been performing better (faster load times mostly). I've recently been on the lookout for something a little less than $10/month, since my site's pretty small and I definitely don't need or even come close to what the Baby plan is touting. 
 
Overall, a very good experience with them. I only really contacted support once about moving from a yearly billing plan to a monthly one and that was sorted out promptly.

I have had the Aluminum (smallest) reseller plan with HostGator for over two years. I checked the uptime stats for my primary web page at SiteUptime last week. It was 99.984 for the entire time I have had their service. I can't remember the last time it was down. 
 
I have not seen any degradation of performance or service since this recent increase in resources. They did the same thing over a year ago without any problem. 
 
I think it is commendable that a company will increase the resources of existing customers at no extra cost just because they offer better deals to new customers. 
 
HostGator is a class act. :)
